    El propósito de este artículo es mostrar cómo, durante el período de la Contrarreforma, una vez que se lleva a cabo el Concilio de Trento, la pintura barroca del Virreinato del Perú tenía como finalidad educar a las personas en la fe católica, conmover su espíritu por medio del arte e influir sobre su pensamiento de acuerdo con los valores católicos romanos.

    Además, otra finalidad de este artículo es demostrar que, en Hispanoamérica, en el Virreinato del Perú, el fenómeno europeo del estilo barroco se mezcló con las influencias de los nativos americanos para convertirse en un nuevo arte

    The purpose of this article is to show how, during the Counter-Reformation period, after the Council of Trent, Baroque painting in the Viceroyalty of Peru was intended to educate people in the Catholic faith, to move their spirit through art and to influence their thinking in accordance with Roman Catholic values.

    Furthermore, another purpose of this article is to demonstrate that, in Spanish America, in the Viceroyalty of Peru, the European phenomenon of the Baroque style was mixed with Native American influences to become a new art.
