    El presente artículo analiza el rol fundamental y la evolución de la escuela, tanto en su variante misional como en lo concerniente a la pública-estatal, dentro del territorio de La Araucanía chilena durante el siglo XIX y los inicios del XX. A partir del análisis general del proceso de crecimiento del sistema educacional nacional, esta investigación indaga en torno al rol de las diferentes instituciones formativas en la chilenización del territorio, desarrollando variadas actividades para ir desplegando diversas acciones, acarreando tareas múltiples, tales como la instauración de cierto ideario basado en el progreso y la productividad, el establecimiento de ciertas imágenes y estereotipos sobre la Nación y la civilización y la moralización de la población desperdigada por el espacio mapuche. La lectura general de este devenir nos permitirá evaluar la efectividad de estas faenas en la adscripción del segmento indígena al corpus universal de ciudadanos.

    This article analyses the fundamental role and evolution of the school, in its missionary variant and in its public-state variant, within the territory of La Araucanía in Chile during the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Based on a general analysis of the growth process of the national educational system, this research investigates the role of the different educational institutions in the Chileanization of the territory, developing various activities to deploy various actions, carrying out various tasks, such as the establishment of a certain ideology based on progress and productivity, the establishment of certain images and stereotypes about the Nation and civilization, and the moralization of the population scattered throughout the Mapuche space. The general reading of this development will allow us to evaluate the effectiveness of these tasks in the affiliation of the indigenous segment to the general corpus of citizens
