  • Resumen
    • The present study assesses the level of knowledge about exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) in 40 postpartum mothers. EML, recommended by international organizations for up to six months, provides benefits for the child, such as protection against disease and cognitive development, and for the mother, by reducing the risk of certain cancers and postpartum depression. However, only 42.5% of the participants knew that EML should be maintained until six months, and knowledge about benefits for the mother and breastfeeding techniques was low. The survey showed that 43% had a fair level, 38% a poor level and 20% a good level of knowledge. These results indicate the need to strengthen EML education, especially in sectors with less access to information and medical resources.
