Recurrent pregnancy loss poses a challenge in the field of reproductive medicine, since in most cases its cause cannot be determined. The objective of this study was to evaluate the importance of the cytogenetic study in patients with recurrent abortions. An exhaustive bibliographic review was carried out in multiple databases, using keywords related to cytogenetics and habitual abortion. This review highlighted the interest in the management of recurrent miscarriages and the crucial role of chromosome studies in this process. Research results indicated that newer cytogenetic tests are more effective than older ones in diagnosing recurrent miscarriages. Therefore, it is concluded that cytogenetic analysis plays a fundamental role in the guidance and counseling of couples who have experienced recurrent miscarriages.
