Resumen de El papel de las familias marroquíes en las migraciones de menores hacia España: percepción en acogida y en origen

Mariana Gómez Vicario

  • For more than three decades, Spain has been a country that receives unaccompanied migrant minors (UAMM), mostly from Morocco. When the minors arrive in Spanish territory, the public administrations of the autonomous communities are responsible for assuming guardianship of the minors, who are then placed in child protection centres. Families play an important role in the migratory projects of the MMNAs, as the opportunity to help with the family economy is one of the reasons that drives them to migrate. The aim of this study was to find out the perception of the impact of the family on migration, on the one hand, the perception of a group of minors and young migrants hosted in Spain, and, on the other hand, of a group of young people who were in Morocco with the intention of migrating. The research was based on a qualitative design, gathering information through interviews and focus groups.

The results affirmed that the family plays a determining role in the migration of minors and young people to Spain, in some cases driving them to migrate. It concluded with the need to establish legal and safe channels that allow migration, as well as the need for preventive training in origin on migration through networks that transport people.
