    The basic orthopedic examination in dogs and cats.

    The orthopedic examination orients potential additional examinations and specifies a diagnosis during myoarthro-skeletal conditions. it is always complementary to a general examination and can be accompanied by a neurological one when indicated. It is a rigorous examination, which must be standardized. It can be broken down into two stages: the remote examination and the close examination. The animal is assessed statically, walking and trotting and then examined by palpation. Some specific manipulations can also be performed sometimes under sedation.

    L'examen orthopédique permet d'orienter vers d'éventuels examens complémentaires et de préciser le diagnostic lors d'affections myo-arthro-squelettiques. Il est toujours complémentaire d'un examen général et peut être accompagné d'une évaluation neurologique si celle-ci est indiquée. Il s'agit d'un examen rigoureux qui doit être standardisé. Il peut être décomposé en deux étapes: l'observation à distance et l'examen rapproché. L'animal est d'abord évalué en position statique, en marche et au trot, puis est examiné par palpation. Certaines manipulations spécifiques peuvent également être réalisées, parfois sous sédation.
