    En este artículo se estudia el mobiliario propio de los obispos y arzobispos como símbolo del poder episcopal en las catedrales, a partir del análisis de los ejemplos conservados en la actual diócesis de Orihuela – Alicante. La cátedra episcopal como elemento mueble principal en las catedrales y el asiento del prelado en los coros catedralicios fueron las tipologías de mobiliario que representaron la autoridad, la legitimidad y el magisterio de los prelados en sus sedes catedralicias. En Orihuela, se conservan distintos ejemplos de esta tipología mobiliar que permiten profundizar en la relevancia de estas piezas y la importancia que se le dio a la hora de su diseño y encargo a artistas de relevancia durante el Barroco.

    This article studies the furniture of bishops and archbishops as a symbol of episcopal power in cathedrals, based on the analysis of the examples preserved in the current diocese of Orihuela – Alicante. The episcopal cathedra as the main movable element in cathedrals and the prelate's seat in cathedral choirs were the types of furniture that represented the authority, legitimacy and magisterium of the prelates in their cathedral sees. In Orihuela, there are different examples of this type of furniture that allow us to delve deeper into the relevance of these pieces and the importance that was given to them at the time of their design and commissioning to artists of relevance during the Baroque.
