Entrecruzamentos latino-americanos: reflexões sobre a teologia da libertação e suas implicações no contexto brasileiro

    The present research seeks to analyze some of the ways that have contributed to the approach of the Catholic Church to the poorest in Latin America between the 1970s and 1990s. We will especially analyze the years that comprised the Military Dictatorship in Brazil, a moment of extreme political rigidity, persecution, torture and death. It was during this time that the Church expressed its solidarity with the struggle of the poor, solidifying itself as a voice space when the norm was to shut up. It is on this journey that we dwell, highlighting the paths taken by Liberation Theology that enabled the strengthening of social movements and that would later give the Church another character. Closer to the impoverished population, daily life, living daily with the suffering of many, the Catholic Church through Liberation Theology provided a space for broad political debate that would later become the nucleus of the most critical movements and the left.

    A pesquisa apresentada busca analisar alguns dos caminhos que contribuíram para a aproximação da Igreja Católica com os mais pobres da América Latina entre as décadas de 1960 e 1970. Analisaremos especialmente os anos que compreenderam a Ditadura Militar no Brasil, momento este de extremo enrijecimento político, perseguições, torturas e mortes. Foi durante este momento que a Igreja se solidarizou com a luta dos pobres, solidificando-se como espaço de voz quando a norma era calar. É sobre este caminhar que debruçamo-nos, destacando os caminhos percorridos pela Teologia da Libertação que possibilitaram o fortalecimento de movimentos sociais e que mais tarde dariam outro caráter a Igreja. Mais próxima da população empobrecida, de seu cotidiano, convivendo diariamente com o sofrimento de muitos, a Igreja Católica por meio da Teologia da Libertação proporcionou um espaço de amplo debate político que posteriormente tornar-se-ia o núcleo dos movimentos mais críticos e a esquerda.
