    L'ipotesi di questo lavoro consiste nel fatto che nel contesto globale della Commedia, dove domina l'allegoria figurale dei teologi, l'autore nei canti XXVIII e XXIX del Paradiso terrestre, in cui Matelda è la protagonista assoluta, inserirebbe l'allegoria in verbis, l'allegoria dei poeti. In questi canti Dante lascerebbe in sospeso l'allegoria dei teologi in favore dell'allegoria dei poeti; sotto la "bella menzogna" del suo Paradiso terrestre e della sua unica abitante si nasconderebbero dunque molteplici possibilità di senso.

    The hypothesis of this work is that in the overall context of the Commedia, where the figural allegory of the theologians dominates, the author in Cantos XXVIII and XXIX of the Earthly Paradise, in which Matelda is the absolute protagonist, would insert the allegory in verbis, the allegory of the poets. In these Cantos, Dante would leave the allegory of the theologians in abeyance in favour of the allegory of the poets; under the 'beautiful lie' of his Earthly Paradise and its sole inhabitant would thus conceal multiple possibilities of meaning.
