Resumen de Empowering education: leveraging ict and assistive technology forinclusive learning environments

Giasemi Milathianaki

  • This study delves into Greek general and special education teachers’ beliefs and attitudes towards Assistive Technology (AT) for students with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) and Learning Disabilities (LD) in mainstream schools, aiming to fill a notable gap in understanding. Using a quantitative approach, this research examines demographic factors like gender, age, and education level to discern their impact on teachers’ AT attitudes. With a robust sample size of 751 educators, representative of the Greek teaching cohort, the research employs rigorous statistical analysis methods. Results reveal generally positive attitudes towards AT, especially among female teachers, and underscore the importance of specialized training in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SENDs). Notably, factors like age and school type don’t significantly affect teachers’ perceptions of AT. Projectors and tablets emerge as the most commonly used AT tools. These findings advocate for targeted support and specialized training to effectively integrate AT into mainstream classrooms, thus enhancing inclusive education for students with disabilities.
