Introduction: HSV-1 infection has been studied in neurons, where an alteration of cell signaling pathways has been observed during infection, using energy, apoptotic and cell survival pathways.
Objective: To characterize the effects of productive HSV-1 infection on the mitochondrial biogenesis of HaCaT cells derived from human keratinocytes.
Materials and Methods: Various techniques will be performed such as cell culture, indirect immunofluorescence and viral infection.
Results: HSV-1 infection generated a redistribution of mitochondria in the perinuclear zone, given the immunoreaction of ICP8 and TOM40, which showed that there was positive reactivity, and that it has an effect on mitochondrial density.
Discussion: It is important to study the perinuclear pattern and the colocalization with other structures of the TOM40 protein compared to the control.
