    • This image signals that this contribution is a featured part of the special collection on “Quantum Science and Technology in the Introductory Physics Classroom.” During this International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, AstroNotes articles will address the importance of quantum to many exciting aspects of astronomy and physics. The principles of quantum physics were laid out a century ago, yet most people still deem quantum beyond understanding. However, instead of avoiding quantum as a topic too impenetrable for introductory courses, we urge teachers to embrace how quantum effects are so amazing and important for understanding the very topics most interesting to students.
