Incorporating a gender perspective into teaching methodologies is essential for social progress and, broadly speaking, for social and democratic justice. Against this backdrop, with the main focus on fostering critical thinking in university classrooms, a gender-sensitive educational innovation proposal is introduced that effectively brings real-world issues into the classroom. Thus, a teaching methodology has been developed centred around the creation of advertising campaigns by the third sector for a project to rehabilitate a building that will serve as a shelter for women survivors of gender-basedviolence. Consequently, students, organised as advertising agencies, are tasked with managing the entire advertising process through role-playing to craft the ideal campaign. Upon implementation, the advantages and disadvantages of this methodology have been identified. An example of the former is the students’ initiative in independent information gathering and engagement with seemingly distant realities. As for areas of improvement, the primary student beneficiaries of adopting ideas about genderawareness have been those who served as account directors within the agencies.
