    El objetivo de este artículo es mostrar momentos significativos de la historia del Archivo de Arquitectura de la Biblioteca de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) y de su compromiso con la docencia y el patrimonio arquitectónico.

    Su andadura comenzó como museo de carácter docente que, muy temprano, contó con una voluntad de proyección que excedía a la comunidad académica, aspirando a dar a conocer el valor del citado patrimonio a la sociedad en general. En esa dirección se encaminaron los trabajos en un recorrido lleno de vicisitudes durante el cual el “museo” dio paso al “archivo”, cambio de orientación que refleja la puesta en valor de la serie y el contexto documental.

    Actualmente, los fondos del Archivo de Arquitectura están disponibles en abierto en la plataforma Archivo Histórico Digital de la Biblioteca de la UPM (AHDB) con más de 16.000 objetos digitales (imágenes de planos y dibujos, vaciados de yeso, material fotográfico, documentación textual, maquetas, grabados, etc.) que los usuarios pueden descargar sin estar registrados ni pertenecer a la universidad. El compromiso es el mismo, pero, gracias a las nuevas herramientas, la visibilidad se ha incrementado notablemente.

    The objective of this article is to highlights significant moments in the history of the Architecture Archive of the Library of the School of Architecture at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and its commitment to teaching and Architectural Heritage.

    Its path began as an educacional museum that, early on, had a desire for outreach that extended beyond the academic community: the goal was making the value of the aforementionated Architectural Heritage known to society in general. Efforts were made to that effect, although it was a journey not without its challenges, during which the “museum” gave way to the “archive”, a change in orientation that reflects the enhancement of the series and the documentary context.

    Currently, the fonds of the Architecture Archive are available openly within the Archivo Histórico Digital de la Biblioteca de la UPM platform (AHDB) with more than 16,000 digital objects (images of plans and drawings, plaster casts, photographic material, textual records, models, engravings, etc.) that users can download without being registered or belonging to the University. The commitment is the same, but, thanks to the new tools, the visibility has significantly increased.
