Le sarcophage de Ramsès II remployé à Abydos!

    A fragment of a granite sarcophagus bearing a representation of the Book of Gates, found in the monastery of Apa Moses at Abydos, has been attributed by its publishers to an unknown son of Ramses II. The object was then used by the high priest of Amun, Menkheperre of Dynasty 21, whose titles, which include a cartouche, would have been later modified. On closer examination, it appears that the inscription only comprises two phases. While the second corresponds to Menkheperre’s reuse of the monument, the first seems to attribute its initial creation to Ramses II himself.

    Un fragment de sarcophage de granit portant représentation du Livre des Portes, retrouvé en remploi dans le monastère d’Apa Moses à Abydos a été attribué par ses éditeurs à un fils inconnu de Ramsès II. L’objet a été remployé par le grand prêtre d’Amon Menkhéperrê de la XXIe dynastie, dont la titulature comportant un cartouche aurait été modifiée par la suite. À l’examen, il semble que l’inscription ne comporte que deux phases. Si la seconde correspond effectivement à une récupération du monument par Menkhéperrê, la première semble bien attribuer sa réalisation initiale à Ramsès II lui-même.
