    Considering the set of historiographical works found in three Portuguese medieval libraries, which themes, authors and texts were privileged? Which geographies and spiritual currents? And what kind of ensemble do these texts form? In this essay we seek not only to provide a panoramic overview of the historiographical texts present in the libraries of three Portuguese religious institutions, but also to understand how they might have fitted into the diverse paths of action of those communities. Can we look at them as a coherent set, or just as an amalgam of scattered texts forming a whole without a thread? And can we, despite the gaps, understand the motivations inherent to the choice of the titles included in those libraries? Independently of the answers, by trying to have an overview of these works, we also try to understand the place of History in the medievalsociety of the peninsular West

    Atendendo ao conjunto de obras de cariz historiográfico que encontramos em três bibliotecas medievais portuguesas, que temáticas, autores, autoridades e textos foram aí privilegiados? Que geografias e correntes espirituais? E que espécie de conjunto formam esses textos? Neste ensaio procuramos não só avançar com uma visão panorâmica sobre os textos historiográficos presentes nas bibliotecas de três instituições religiosas portuguesas, mas também compreender de que forma se poderão ter encaixado nas diversas vias de ação daquelas comunidades. Poderemos olhálos como um conjunto coerente, ou apenas como uma amálgama de textos dispersos formando um todo sem um fio condutor? E podemos, apesar das lacunas, compreender as motivações inerentes à escolha dos títulos incluídos naquelas bibliotecas? Independentemente das respostas, ao tentarmos uma visão de conjunto sobre estas obras, procuramos também compreender o lugar da História na sociedade medieval do Ocidente peninsular.
