This work aims to analyze the evolution of astronomy in the Middle Ages through the study of some nocturnal observation techniques and instruments developed between the 5th-13th centuries. Through various testimonies, both written and material, we will be able to observe the constant synergy between the responses to various needs in the form of applied astronomy and the emergence of a theory that serves as a guide for these practices. From the simple methods of observing the stars over the horizon line to the reception of the advanced devices developed in the Arab world, mediate different episodes of contact reflected in instruments such as the nocturnal, the astrolabe, the equatorium or the torquetum, constituting an exceptional testimony to illustrate the channels of scientific transmission and its reception in the Latin area
