The Historia Compostellana, written in the first half of the twelfth century by clerics of the Church of Santiago de Compostela, close to Diego Gelmírez (1100-1140), is one of the main Hispanic chronicles of this period. These writers made several considerations about the territory beyond the Pyrenees, using different words to mention it – Francia, Gallia or Galliarum partes. This study seeks to clarify the meaning that the chroniclers attributed to them, reflect on the representation they made of the ultrapyrenean region and confront this image with the translations of the chronicle that were made from Latin to Castilian.
