Introduction: obesity is a multifactorial issue where emotional aspects play a crucial role in dietary habits and weight control. The aim is to analyze the importance of mindful eating in addressing obesity.
Methods: a literature review was conducted by searching databases such as PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar, and Science Direct, from which updated articles meeting inclusion criteria and containing keywords such as obesity and mindful eating were selected.
Results: paying attention to the types of foods consumed fosters a healthier relationship with food, reducing associated guilt. Numerous benefits of mindful eating were found, including improvements in the physical and mental health of obese patients. Additionally, it was noted that reduced sleep is related to increased obesity, as it leads to hormonal imbalances that increase appetite. Interventions focused on intuitive and mindful eating demonstrated significant benefits in modifying eating behaviors and the psychoemotional health of patients, reducing levels of stress and anxiety.
Conclusion: addressing obesity requires a multidisciplinary approach that promotes mindful eating and the use of functional foods with appealing organoleptic qualities, satiating effects, and preventive measures against comorbidities of the disease. A varied, balanced, sufficient, harmless, and personalized nutritional plan tailored to the needs and habits of each patient is essential.
