Introduction: infertility is a health problem that affects couples of reproductive age worldwide.
Objective: to design an educational strategy on the causes of couple infertility in the population of San Juan y Martínez 2019-2021.
Methods: an observational, descriptive, prospective longitudinal study was carried out. The sample consisted of 189 infertile couples. Theoretical, empirical and statistical methods were used. The statistical method used was descriptive statistics.
Results: the mean age of the female population was 28,9±7,8 years, 67,2 % had secondary infertility. Of the male population, 60,3 % presented primary infertility, with a mean age of 32,4±6,1 years. There was a predominance in women (15,3 %), with the presence of endocrinometabolic diseases. The main causes of female infertility were found to be infections with 39,2 %, tubal (19,6 %) and ovarian factors (18 %). In male infertility, spermatozoa (63,7 %), testicular (22,8 %) and infections (5,3 %) were the main causes. The associated risk factors were testicular or seminal tract disorders (male) with 74,6 % (X2= 19,59, p=0,000, RR=2,09), unfavorable gynecological factors (female) with 71,95 % (X2=6,49, p=0,01, RR=2,03). 01, RR=2,03), psychological factors, 28,4 % (X2=12,90, p=0,000, RR=1,50), exposure to risk factors in men with 20,6 % (X2=13,86, p=0,000) and obesity (p=0,03, OR=1,73, RR=1,3).
Conclusions: the clinical-epidemiological study of couple infertility allowed the design of an educational strategy to promote healthy lifestyles in the population at risk as part of the preventive treatment of infertility.
