    Este artículo hace un recorrido a través de los principales antecedentes académicos e institucionales que dieron paso al surgimiento conceptual del desarrollo sostenible y a su incorporación en la agenda internacional. Las investigaciones científicas sobre el deterioro ambiental, la Conferencia de Estocolmo y el Informe Brunland, de la Comisión Mundial del Medio Ambiente, contribuyeron al posicionamiento del desarrollo sostenible como una preocupación de alcance global.

    This article takes a journey through of the main background that cleared the way to the conceptual emergence of the sustainable development and his incorporation in the international agenda. The scientific researchs about ambiental damage, the Stockholm Conference and the Brundtland Report, Environment Commission´s Report, contributed for the global positioning of the sustainable development.
