Ka’aguachu: “la selva en un sólo árbol”. Una contribución de la mitología ava chiripa a la toponimia de la región guaranítica

    A partir de narrativas de los Ava Chiripa de Misiones, Argentina, se trabaja la expresión toponímica Caaguazú, que es frecuente en Paraguay, Brasil, Bolivia y Argentina. La ambigüedad de dicho topónimo se debe al vocablo “caa” (ka’a) que significa “selva” y también “yerba mate”. Las narrativas transcriptas y traducidas aquí no resuelven esta ambigüedad, pero la legitiman.

    On the basis of narratives of the Ava Chiripa guaranis residents in Misiones Province, Argentina, the toponymical expression Caaguazú, frequent in Paraguay, Brazil, Bolivian and Argentina, are treated here. The ambiguity of this expression is due to the word “caa” (ka’a) that signifies “forest” and at the same time “paraguayan tea”. The tales recorded and translated here not resolve this ambiguity, but legitimate it.
