    El presente ensayo quiere profundizar en el alcance de la metáfora “el amigo es otro yo” contenida en la Ética a Nicómaco 1166a, 31-32. En términos epistemológicos, evaluaremos cómo esta metáfora tiene relación con (i) el tipo de entidad que es el amigo y (ii) el tipo de relación que es la amistad. En cuanto al ámbito psicológico, se someterá a examen el grado de identidad implícito en la metáfora. Es decir, mediante un examen de diversos pasajes del libro IX de la Ética a Nicómaco, argumentaremos que el grado de identidad implícito en la metáfora “el amigo es otro yo” admite ciertas diferencias de carácter y de opinión, pues esto también es propio del tipo específico de relación que es la amistad virtuosa.

    In recent years, the interest in matters of inclusion and tolerance inpublic and private spaces of political life has increased. But, in fact, differences amongpeople continue to be a problem in daily life. The aim of this paper is to delve intothe meaning of the Aristotelian expression “the friend is another self ” present in theNicomachean Ethics 1166a, 31-32. In epistemological terms, we are going to evaluatewhat this metaphor has to do with (i) the type of entity that the “friend” is, and (ii)the specific kind of relation that friendship is. We shall also examine the psychologicalimplications of the Aristotelian account of the friend as another-self. That is, through ananalysis of some passages of Book IX of the Nicomachean Ethics, we will argue that theidentity implied in the metaphor admits certain differences of character and opinion,because it also belongs to the so-called virtuous friendship relationship.
