    Se analiza la actividad del transporte de mercancías en la Corona de Castilla entre los siglos XIV y XVII por las rutas terrestres. Se dedica una primera parte al transporte con carretas, diferenciando entre las tiradas por bueyes y las tiradas por mulas. Se identifican las principales comarcas del reino en que hubo personas dedicadas a esta actividad. Y se identifican las principales mercancías que fueron transportadas por las carretas de uno y otro tipo. En la segunda parte se identifican las comarcas que contaron con grupos más numerosos de arrieros dedicados al transporte de mercancías con acémilas, dedicando especial atención a aquéllos que participaron también en el trato mercantil. En la tercera parte se propone un estudio introductorio sobre el perfil social de los transportistas, diferenciando entre auténticos empresarios que utilizaban manode obra asalariada, y personal subalterno.

    The author studies the activity of the transport of merchandise in the Crown of Castile between the thirteenth and the eighteenth centuries that used the land routes. Inthe first part he pays atten- tion to the transport with carts, establishing a distinction between those carried by oxen, and those carried by mules. He identifies the main regions of the kingdom where part of the population was devoted to this activity, and the main merchandises that were transported by oxen or mules. In the second part he identifies the main regions where many muleteers were devoted to the transport of merchandise, paying special attention to those that at the same time invested in mercantile enterprises. Inthe third part he offers an introductory study about the social profile of the carriers, establishing a distinction between entrepreneurs that employed a salaried workforceand dependent workers.
