Imaginando la ciudad y el campo artístico: el barrio de Portugalete durante la Transición

    En este artículo se analizan las prácticas artísticas y culturales desarrolladas en el barrio de Portugalete (Madrid) a mediados de los años setenta en tanto en cuanto producto de la intersección de las luchas vecinales y profesionales. Nociones como las del arte y la cultura popular fungieron como herramientas políticas que ampararon, legitimaron y aunaron multiplicidad de prácticas. A través de ellas, los vecinos ejercieron su derecho a la ciudad y los artistas implementaron otras normas para el campo artístico. En el horizonte se encontraba contribuir a crear la sociedad participativa y democrática que imaginaban para el futuro.

    This article analyses the cultural and artistic practices which took place in the neighbourhood of Portugalete in Madrid in the mid-sev-enties, and which were the product of the intersection of the struggles of neighbours and professionals. The notions of popular art and popular culture worked as political tools to support, legitimise and unite a vast array of practices. Thanks to them neighbours could exert their right to the city and artists implemented other norms for the artistic field. Their objective was to contribute to the creation of the participa-tive and democratic society they imagined for the future.
