    En 1871, Mariano Fortuny y Marsal (1838-1874) pintó durante su estancia en Granada uno de sus retratos más sobrecogedores: La señorita Del Castillo en su lecho de muerte, actualmente en el Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC 10699). Varios autores han escrito sobre esta pintura, pero hasta ahora se desconocía quién era la joven fallecida del cuadro y la relación que ésta y su familia mantenían con el pintor. En este artículo desvelaremos su identidad, al tiempo que aportaremos nuevos datos que cambiarán la fortuna crítica del cuadro que conocemos hasta el momento.

    In 1871, Mariano Fortuny y Marsal (1838-1874) painted one of his most striking portraits during his stay in Granada: Miss Del Castillo on her deathbed, currently in the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC 10699). Several authors have written about this painting, but until now it was unknown who the deceased young woman in the painting was and the relationship that she and her family had with the painter. In this article we will reveal his identity, while providing new data that will change the critical fortunes of the painting that we know until now.
