    En diversos países el concepto de centro histórico se ha posicionado a la vanguardia para la protección del patrimonio urbano. Sin embargo, ello es interpretado y definido según necesidades y expectativas planteadas en el presente. De tal suerte, el artículo postula el objetivo de analizar el marco normativo en torno al centro histórico para la definición y salvaguarda del patrimonio urbano, a partir del caso de la ciudad de Tepic, Nayarit, México. Es establecida una metodología que parte del análisis a nivel de legislación federal y estatal que cierra con los planes y reglamentos municipales. Se concluye que la interpretación normativa del patrimonio cultural mexicano no es compartida por los diferentes niveles de gobierno, generando conflictos que inciden de manera directa en la particular configuración material y espacial de los centros históricos.

    In several countries, the concept of the historic center has positioned itself at the forefront for the protection of urban heritage. However, it is interpreted and defined according to the needs and expectations of the present. Thus, the article postulates the objective of analyzing the normative framework around the historic center for the definition and safeguarding of urban heritage, based on the case of the city of Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico. It is established a methodology that starts from the analysis at the level of federal and state legislation that closes with the municipal plans and regulations. It is concluded that the normative interpretation of Mexican cultural heritage is not shared by the different levels of government, generating conflicts that directly affect the particular material and spatial configuration of historical centers.
