Introducción: La educación es un derecho humano, motor del desarrollo e instrumento fundamental para acabar con la pobreza y fomentar la prosperidad común. En la actualidad, el Banco Mundial es la principal fuente de financiación externa para la educación en América Latina y el Caribe (ALC). Metodología: A partir de la información que ofrece la base de datos del Banco Mundial y la bibliografía consultada, el objetivo de esta investigación es conocer el monto que el Banco Mundial ha destinado al sector educativo en los países de ALC a partir del lanzamiento de la Estrategia de educación 2020. Resultados: La institución financiera ejecutó 88 proyectos en este sector en 22 países de la región entre 2010 y 2022. Discusión: Analizar cómo ha evolucionado la cuantía asignada en los últimos años, qué importancia relativa tienen los fondos recibidos en el total de activos financieros gestionados por la entidad, cuál es el origen de los recursos, qué tipo de actuaciones financia y, por último, cuál es la distribución geográfica de las operaciones por países. Conclusiones: Caracterizar cuantitativa y cualitativamente las actuaciones de la organización financiera multilateral en favor de la formación y la capacitación en los países en desarrollo.
Introduction: Education is a human right, an important driver of development and one of the most important instruments to end poverty and promote prosperity. Currently, the World Bank Group is the main source of external financing for education in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). Methodology: Based on the information offered by the World Bank database and the bibliography consulted, the objective of this research is to know the amount that the World Bank has allocated to the educational sector in the LAC countries since the launch of the Education Strategy 2020. Results: The financial institution executed 88 education projects in 22 of the regions between 2010 and 2022. Discussions: Analyze how the amount allocated has evolved in recent years, what relative importance the funds received have in the total financial assets managed by the entity, what is the origin of the resources, what type of actions it finances and, finally, what is the geographical distribution of country operations. Conclusions: Quantitatively and qualitatively characterize the actions of the first multilateral financial organization in favor of the education and training of the population in developing countries.
