    Este artículo reexamina fuentes periodísticas e institucionales con el objeto de establecer y explicar el comportamiento de la marinería durante los disturbios del 12 de mayo de 1903 en Valparaíso. La hipótesis propone que la marinería incurrió en un acto de insubordinación, conteniendo el ejercicio represivo contra los manifestantes, lo que habría obedecido al estrecho vínculo que los marineros tenían con la clase trabajadora y los sectores populares a los que debían reprimir; el que estaba dado por el origen popular y porteño de estos uniformados, cuya experiencia laboral -y su requerimiento militar-, reforzaba su interacción local.

    This article reexamines journalistic and institutional sources in order to establish and explain the behavior of the seamanship during the riots of May 12, 1903 in Valparaíso. The hypothesis proposes that the seamanship incurred in an act of insubordination, containing the repressive exercise against the demonstrators, which would have been due to the close bond that the seamanship had with the working class and the popular sectors that they had to repress; this bond was given by the popular and habour origin of these uniformed men, whose work experience - and their military requirement - reinforced their local interaction.
