El objetivo del presente estudio es investigar el caso de un individuo procedente de la maqbara de Ignasi Wallis 9 (ss. X-XII, Ibiza, España). Se trata de un sujeto adulto de sexo masculino con una perforación ubicada entre el occipital y el parietal derecho, ocupando parte de la sutura lambdoidea. Se efectuó el diagnóstico diferencial para tratar de establecer la etiología de la lesión: traumatismo, aspectos tafonómicos o trepanación. Además, se tuvieron en cuenta las trazas de paleopatología postcraneal. Concluimos que se trata de una trepanación peri-mortem y que el sujeto además presentaba evidencias de espondiloartrosis y patología bucodental.

The aim of this study is to investigate the case of a male adult individual from themedieval Islamic cemetery of Ignasi Wallis 9 (10th – 12th centuries CE, Ibiza, Spain).The inhumation shows an oval wound located between the occipital and right parietalbones, occupying part of the lambdoid suture. We made a differential diagnosis toestablish the aetiology of the wound –traumatism, taphonomy or trepanation-.Furthermore, we took into account the pathological traces of post- cranial skeleton.We conclude that the perforation is a peri-mortem trepanation and that theindividual also showed spondiloarthritis and dental pathology.
