    Aunque una larga tradición de estudiosos de la teoría de la ley natural ha posicionado a Grocio en el origen de las concepciones modernas del derecho, investigaciones más recientes han matizado el carácter rupturista de su planteamiento, minimizando la preponderancia que el deseo de autoconservación tiene en el esquema del holandés. En este contexto, el presente trabajo tiene por objeto aclarar la posición de Grocio sobre el origen de la comunidad política, así como su relación con la concepción del derecho, todo a la luz que recibe de la tradición aristotélica.

    Although a long tradition of scholars of the theory of natural law has positioned Grotius at the origin of modern conceptions of law, more recent research has nuanced the disruptive nature of his approach, minimizing the preponderance that the desire for self-preservation has in the scheme of the Dutch author. In this context, this paper aims to clarify Hugo Grotius’ position on the origin of the political community, as well as its relationship with the conception of law, all in the light of the influence of the Aristotelian tradition.
