  • The present paper proposes an approach to cognitive semantics via the process of metaphorization, in order to highlight the relationship between the cognitive and the metaphorical perspectives respectively. To this purpose, we will focus on the configuration of the semantic field of domestic animals, since cognitive semantics allows establishing a hierarchy within any semantic field. The study of the metaphorical values associated with the words designating domestic animals has revealed that most of these words bear negative connotations. The process of metaphorization introduces another order within a given category, depending on the figurative meaning assigned to words.
