Belgian litterature expressed in French is a rich and diverse cultural space. Belgian writers have been since forever preoccupied with the relation text-image, which gives us nowadays a plethora of authors who have been practicing, with inventivity and originality all litterary genres, even those difficult to express (like the symbolist theatre, brilliantly achieved by Maeterlinck). They all tried to express, in a language that is specific to their geographical and cultural space, being at the same time the language of the Hexagone, their differences and their unique way to relate to history. Symbolism, surrealism, but also magical realism or theatre are all facettes of this fascinating and not exempt of contradictions litterary space.
