Our article sets out to consider one of the most remarkable particularities of the theatre of the absurd: the dissolution of language. The analysis of the various methods used to discredit the language of reason specific to traditional theatre will focus mostly on the works of the three principal representatives of the movement, Eugène Ionesco, Samuel Beckett and Arthur Adamov. We will also emphasize the fact that this calling into question of the language is far from gratuitous, as it is closely related to the calling into question of the literary character and therefore of the human being.
