Las actividades del doctor Erostarbe durante su estancia en Algeciras (1857-1860)

    Analizamos las actividades científicas realizadas por el Dr. Erostarbe durante su estancia en Algeciras entre los años de 1857 al 1860. Primeramente, como médico encargado de la sanidad del vapor Vigilante y de los restantes buques del apostadero de guardacostas. En segundo lugar, en octubre de 1859, fue el responsable de montar un hospital para los coléricos, durante la tercera epidemia, que coincide con la movilización de las tropas al comienzo de la Guerra de África. Y, en tercer lugar, colaborando en la secretaría del Ayuntamiento de Algeciras para realizar y publicar los estadillos oficiales, siendo alcalde don Antonio Fernández.

    We analyse the scientific activities carried out by Dr. Erostarbe during his stay in Algeciras between 1857 and 1860. Firstly, as the ship’s doctor of the steamer Vigilante and the other ships of the coastguard station. Secondly, in October 1859, he was responsible for setting up a hospital for cholera patients during the third epidemic, which coincided with the mobilisation of the troops at the beginning of the African War. And, thirdly, he collaborated in the secretary’s office of the Town Hall of Algeciras to draw up and publish the official statistics, when Antonio Fernández was mayor.
