    Hasta finales del siglo XVIII, el mercado se instalaba en la calle San Donato y sus aledaños; la carnicería, en la calle Santísima Trinidad; y la pescadería, en Puerta del Mar. En marzo de 1835 fue inaugurada la primera plaza de abastos propiamente dicha, ubicada en el solar del antiguo convento de la Trinidad. Se mantuvo en condiciones precarias hasta que a comienzos del siglo XX se hizo urgente su reconstrucción. El nuevo mercado fue construido entre 1927 y 1928 con proyecto del arquitecto José Romero Barrero.

    Until the end of the 18th century, the market was located in Calle San Donato and its surroundings; the butcher’s shop in Calle Santísima Trinidad; and the fishmonger’s shop in Puerta del Mar. In March 1835, the first market square proper was inaugurated, located on the site of the old convent of La Trinidad. It remained in precarious conditions until the beginning of the 20th century when its reconstruction became urgent. The new market was built between 1927 and 1928 with a project by the architect José Romero Barrero.
