Algunos aspectos sobre la conquista austracista de Gibraltar en 1704

    Pese a la abundante bibliografía sobre la conquista de Gibraltar por los aliados de la casa de Austria, aún quedan aspectos por analizar en base a fuentes poco conocidas. Una aproximación a esta posibilidad pretende ser esta publicación, que aborda temas como la influencia y paralelismos del ataque francés de 1693 con el anglo-holandés de 1704, la utilización de Getares como fondeadero por la escuadra atacante, los desembarcos previos al bombardeo, el desgraciado encuentro de las monjas evacuadas con los invasores, el incipiente uso del fondeadero de Algeciras o el desembarco fallido en el mismo.

    Despite the abundant bibliography on the conquest of Gibraltar by the allies of the House of Habsburg, there are still some aspects that remain to be analysed on the basis of little-known sources. This publication is intended as an approach to this possibility. It deals with subjects such as the influence and parallels between the French attack of 1693 and the Anglo-Dutch attack of 1704, the use of Getares as an anchorage by the attacking squadron, the landings prior to the bombardment, the unfortunate encounter of the evacuated nuns with the invaders, the incipient use of the Algeciras anchorage and the failed landing there.
