De los comienzos de la artillería castellana: El asedio a Gibraltar entre 1349 y 1350

    La artillería castellana se empleó por primera vez frente a los musulmanes en aguas del Estrecho, con ocasión del asedio a Gibraltar dirigido por el rey Alfonso XI, si nos atenemos al relato del polígrafo y político granadino Ibn al-Jatib. De este interesante acontecimiento trataremos en este trabajo, al tiempo de repasar la tecnología artillera de la época y las múltiples vicisitudes que se produjeron en torno a este asedio, en el que encontró la muerte el rey de Castilla.

    The Castilian artillery was used for the first time against the Muslims in the waters of the Strait, on the occasion of the siege of Gibraltar led by King Alfonso XI, if we stick to the story of the polygraph and politician from Granada Ibn al-Jatib. We will deal with this interesting event in this work, while reviewing the artillery technology of the time and the multiple vicissitudes that occurred around this siege, in which the King of Castile found his death.
