    El cantón Portoviejo, en Manabí, está conformado por zonas urbanas y rurales, caracterizadas por la inversión en esas áreas, generando empleo y aumentando la competitividad de las microempresas agrícolas, específicamente las dedicadas al cultivo de cacao. Sin embargo, es necesario contar con un conjunto de habilidades para el uso de herramientas que favorezcan la innovación en estas microempresas; el objetivo de este estudio, es analizar la capacidad de innovación tecnológica y su relación con la competitividad en microempresas agrícolas cultivadoras de cacao de Portoviejo, realizando una encuesta a 54 microempresas ubicadas en el cantón y registradas en el SRI. El estudio de tipo descriptivo con diseño no experimental, facilitando los resultados de que dichas microempresas en su mayoría tienen un bajo nivel en cuanto al desarrollo de las capacidades de innovación tecnológica, razón por la cual se les dificulta los niveles de competitividad en el mercado y tener ventaja competitiva.

    The Portoviejo canton, in Manabí, is made up of urban and rural areas, characterized by investment in these areas, generating employment and increasing the competitiveness of agricultural microenterprises, specifically those dedicated to cocoa cultivation. However, it is necessary to have a set of skills to use tools that promote innovation in these microenterprises; The objective of this study is to analyze the capacity for technological innovation and its relationship with competitiveness in agricultural microenterprises that grow cocoa in Portoviejo, conducting a survey of 54 microenterprises located in the canton and registered in the SRI. The descriptive study with a non-experimental design, providing the results that these microenterprises mostly have a low level in terms of the development of technological innovation capabilities, which is why it is difficult for them to achieve levels of competitiveness in the market and have competitive advantage.
