  • Resumen
    • This study examines the land cover changes and urban heat island trends in the Varanasi, India using geoinformatics from 1991 to 2021. Landsat datasets from the United State GeologicalSurvey (USGS) were used for this study and zonal spatial statistical analysis was performed to get the variation of Land Surface Temperature (LST) with change in land cover. A significant rise inimpervious area from 23.24 Km2 in 1991 to 117.49 km2in 2021 has occurred. The temperature fluctuated between 17.44°C - 29.98°C in 1991 to 23.75°C- 44.13°C in 2021. The trend of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and LST indicated that a reduction in natural land cover raisedLST. Such pattern of urban growth might exhibit increased warming in the future.
