    • Smart territories represent an evolution of the smart city concept [1], the main challenges of which concern the economic, social, environmental, technological and mobility spheres in relation to the depopulation of rural areas. The objective of the essay is to provide a panoramic of positive experiences in the field of transforming cities into smart territories, highlighting how these initiatives can contribute to social inclusion and urban security. So, addressing these challenges in rural territories requires integrated approaches, also involving the local community to develop tailoredsolutions that enhance the specific resources and opportunities of each territory
