During the archaeological excavation works carried out throughout the year 2022 in the area known as Molí de l’Arròs, an old flour mill from the Modern period located in the municipality of Burriana (Castellón) that had been razed since the beginning of the 20th century, a series of foundations and levels from different periods were documented. In the aforementioned works, the remains of machinery and metal plates were documented, cleaned and restored, which would have formed part of a clandestine coin forgery workshop, which was probably in operation at the end of the 19th century, when the mill was already abandoned. Until now, there was no known data on coin counterfeiting in the region to which Burriana belongs, making this an archaeological find of great interest.
