This work focuses on the measures put in place to stem and contain the phenomenon of urbanization and soil sealing in Europe and highlights the measures that various European countries have taken to curb land consumption and promote urban regeneration. The focus is on Italy, where the lack of a national law on land consumption and inconsistent regional regulations pose ahard challenge. The study compares urban regeneration laws in the main European countries and Italy, by analyzing best practices and conducting an analysis of the "Nature Restoration Law"adopted by the European Commission in July 2023. The research emphasizes the necessity of adopting a comprehensive strategy to address urbanization challenges, as urban regeneration effort canenhance city sustainability and resilience through improved provision of ecosystem services.
