The Author recalls the reflections and actions of Giacomo Matteotti, a jurist involved between politics and law. At the same time, he highlights his defense of the rule of law as an extraordinary contribution to the democratic legal culture. In particular, the Author analyzes the various essays on criminal procedure written by the Jurist in the years 1917-1919. He underlines the rigor of the critical comparison between the legislator and the doctrine of the time, together with the awareness of the progressive establishment of the authoritarian fascist regime. Finally, the Author retraces the events of the Matteotti crime by fascist hitmen and the contradictory events of the criminal trials that followed.
