    A lo largo del siglo XVIII los ingenieros militares de la Corona española llevaron a cabo diversos reconocimientos y descripciones de las fortificaciones de la frontera portuguesa, proponiendo actuaciones para mejorar su estado de defensa. El último año de la centuria, y ante un inminente conflicto con Portugal, se organizaron desde Zamora nuevos trabajos, entre los que se encuentran los del coronel de ingenieros Fausto Caballero. Su informe nos da cuenta de la situación de las defensas de las plazas militares en aquel momento y de las obras que se proponían para mejorar sus debilidades.

    Throughout the 18th century, the military engineers of the Spanish Crown carried out various reconnaissance and descriptions of the fortifications on the Portuguese border, proposing actions to improve their state of defense. The last year of the century, and faced with an imminent conflict with Portugal, new jobs were organized from Zamora, among which were those of the colonel of engineers Fausto Caballero. His report gives us an account of the situation of the defenses of the military posts at that time and the works that were proposed to improve their weaknesses.
