  A partir del hecho de que los campos electromagnéticos de altas frecuencias como los rayos X, producen alteración a nivel genético[1], nació la duda sobre si los campos magnéticos generados por el sistema eléctrico de energía (60 Hz) pudieran provocar efectos similares que fueran perjudiciales para la salud humana. En este artículo se hace una descripción de los principales métodos empleados para el estudio de los efectos biológicos de los campos magnéticos, los resultados obtenidos en algunos estudios y la posición de diferentes instituciones y organizaciones.   Starting from the fact that the electromagnetic fields of high frequencies like the rays X, produces alteration at level genético[1], the doubt was born on if the magnetic fields generated by the electric system of energy (60 Hz) they could cause similar effects that were harmful for the human health. In this article a description of the main methods is made used for the study of the biological effects of the magnetic fields, the results obtained in some studies and the position of different institutions and organizations. Equally the importance is presented of making on the topic a communication social clear.
