    En este trabajo el autor reivindica el valor de la traducción como herramienta de muy variadas aplicaciones didácticas. Entendida como finalidad en si misma, está claro que la traducción es el ejercicio fundamental en la formación de traductores. Entendida como medio para llegar a un fin que es independiente del resultado, la traducción puede resultar muy valiosa en la enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras, en el tratamiento de cuestiones generales sobre el lenguaje y en el estudio de aspectos literarios. Por si ello fuera poco, puede servir para mejorar la expresión en la lengua materna, efectuar lecturas de gran profundidad crítica y mejorar la capacidad intelectual en su sentido más amplio. Si la "traducción didáctica" se desterró durante algún tiempo de las aulas, fue debido en buena medida a una confusión en la jerarquía de intereses que se debían perseguir en cada caso. Hoy en día parece haberse vuelto a reconocer su valor.

    The author of this paper describes the wide spectrum of didactic possibilities offered by translation (understood both as product and process). It is clear that if we consider translation an aim in itself, it constitutes the main exercise in the training of translators. When we consider it as a means to reach an aim independent of the product, it may prove to be a very valuable weapon in the teaching of foreign languages and in the study of literary and linguistic topics. What is more, it may contribute to the acquisition of greater proficiency in the use of the mother tongue, to a more perfect reading of foreign texts and to an improvement in the intellectual capacities. If "didactic translation" was for some time proscribed from the classroom, it was mainly because of a confusion in the hierarchisation of the goals to be achieved in each particular case, but nowadays there are many who have reconsidered its real value in this respect.
