In the current work genetic distances have been estimated between populations using surname frequencies found on the matrimonial records of four parishes of the Ebro Delta (Tarragona), belonging to the 1939-1995 period. Different methods have been used to analyze the surnames: The Lasker coefficient, the Weiss genotypic identity probability, the Relethford coefficient and the Relethford distance. The diversity of surnames in each parish has also been analyzed using both the Shannon-Weaver index and the R parameter of Margalef. The evolution of all these coefficients during the period of study has been considered as well. The results obtained show a close relation among the parished of the North bank, la Cava and Jesús i Maria, that differ clearly from the South bank.
