Resumen de Factores biodemográficos del patrón de estacionalidad de la mortalidad infantil en España

F. Luna, M.A. Edo, V. Alonso, V. Fuster, A. Perrino

  • This paper deals with the effect of sex, and age at death on the seasonal pattern of Spanish infant mortality. A file has been derived from a database composed of 7987193 death inscriptions (all ages) ocurring during the period 1975-1999. The following variables were considered: sex, cause of death (endogenous or exogenous) and age at death (in months and days). The Henry seasonal coefficient and the Edwards test show that sex does not affect the seasonal pattern. However, the age at death is an important factor. Respecting ae, the risk of dying is high in summer just after birth (<1 month of age) while 1-11 months of age an opposite pattern was found in which maximum mortality corresponds to winter.
