  • Resumen
    • In this study the differences between the values of male and female infant mortality in Spain are analyzed, by provinces, considering five consecutive periods (1975-1979 a 1995-1998). It is verified that for the Spanish provinces the male Infant Mortality Rate (TMIm) is higher than the female (TMIf), although the differences decrease as we approach the later period. For some provinces, these differences are negative. The differences between the male and female TMI were correlated with the total TMI for each province and period, to demostrate that the reduction of the total TMI corresponds to a dimininution of the differences between sexes. It is concluded that, in spite of the decreasing tendency of infant mortality in recent years, and the male-female differences reduction, an excess of male infant mortality is noticed yet.
